Public Speaking is Second to Fear of Snake

June 3, 2009 by: Rebecca Cheng

crocodilePublic speaking is second to fear of snake and followed by fear of death.

Fear of snake does not seemed so fearful perhaps we have not experienced a real encounter with the snake. Not all of us encounter snake on a daily basis. It is a mental, perceived situationthat we might be fearful of the snake.

Public speaking is more of a reality; we actually have to give speeches in public due to our job requirement, and/or our commitment. So fear of public speaking might seem more fearful than the fear of snake because it is reality.

Sometimes until and unless we have experienced the loss of someone very close and dear to us, death does not seem so eminent and immediate. When we witness someone’s death, I am sure we will place the fear of death on the top of the list.

When someone dies, we miss their presence, their journey with us end physically and not much we can do except live life to the fullest when we are actually alive.

To live in fear is to deprive our very existence. The fear replaces the joy, the fun and fulfillment and the satisfaction of life and life experience.

The antidote of fear is to live to the best of our abilities knowing something come to an end at certain times and embrace it. This eliminates the fear of death and anything associated with death.

Fear of public speaking can be overcome by taking certain measures. First and foremost it is important to determine the cause of the fear of public speaking.

If one is afraid of others’ opinion, then one need to realize the fact that no matter what there will be other who will put down on you. This might be because of the fact that they themselves are insecure.

One might begin to practice speaking in front of a smaller groups of people and then move upwards.

If one feels lack of confidence, remember that confidence will show up after delivering more and more speeches.

Confidence is not to be thought about, instead action bring confidence and ease.

Another great way to overcome fear of public speaking is to know your materials very well.

Fear of public speaking is not for you alone, majority of the population experience fear of public speaking. They  simply have overcome with practice. Practice, practice and practice.
