January 1, 2009 by: Rebecca Cheng

First, you make a list of at least 10 top New Year’s Resolutions.
Next, narrow the list down to five or less, something you really want to do.
The list have to be practical, something you are very serious about.
You may just need a single resolution.

You may begin with a single resolution but as you lay down the plan, you realize it is no longer a single resolution.

Unfulfilled New Year’s Resolutions Carried Forward…..
Unfulfilled New Year’s resolutions of 2008 once again haunt us.  We feel guilty and didn’t stick to what we promised ourselves and others.
But all is not lost – at the very least, I’m sure many of us were glad that we were able to share with others their 2008 New Year resolution success.

How to Keep New Year Resolution
For example:  Want to be fit and healthy.

* It involves maintaining a proper diet not some days, but on a regular basis.
* You want to research what is a proper diet mean for you. Not just carrot, cheese and yogurt for example.
* What works for someone is not necessarily your body type. Food is the most important factor in keeping up or not with your health.
* Certain types of foods will deplete or boost energy  depending on your body type.
* You would want to work out at home, or maybe at a gym.
* You plan for a regular workout schedule that works for you.
* Make sure you get good sleep so that you have the energy to carry out your daily work and not burn out.

Just in keeping up with the ‘food’ and ‘fitness’, you are going to be busy.  Your research might take you to many places, books, seminars and meet people.  You might get side tracked or discouraged at times.

Remember to keep a journal and record your accomplishments and activities.

The task can be overwhelming especially if you are new at this, but the beauty of this is that you get to expand and grow from your experience.  You might discover the talent or skill you never thought you had, or meet certain people.

When we are overwhelmed with new ideas, new people, new business it can be intimidating and the chance of abandoning your New Year’s resolution is high.

Another reason we might abandon is that we are habituated humans, constantly revolving around our old habits. A new habit has to kick in with reinforcement and time to replace the old habit.

Our ‘mind’ is a trickster, who will constantly assist you to give up, make excuses and give reasons.

Another factor is to ‘discipline’ the mind. Disciplining the mind to do what you want to do, not what the mind want you to do.  Positive ‘thought’ is absolutely important.

Just to accomplish one New Year’s resolution – to be fit and healthy, we need to get involve in so many areas, such as the mind, body and spirit –

Mind is disciplining;
Body is eating right and resting; learning new things and meeting people is fulfilling the-
Spirit aspect of your soul.

You are the entire part of you, the entire part is you.  No part of your experience is separate or lost from you.
One single resolution can take not just a year, could take years to achieve.
So don’t judge by the time frame such as the beginning and the end of the year. You can utilize them as the bench mark of your achievement.

Milestone…investment on your health & fitness will give you many healthy years down the road. This is the foundation you need to have a happy, healthy, successful relationship and career.

We, human, tend to avoid pain. Anything painful or perceived pain can condition us to withdraw and give up. Instead keep doing, on the other side is pleasure.

When you have made a certain achievement, congratulate yourself on you New Year Resolution success and move forward to the next level. It can be tempting to stay there and go nowhere.

If you get discouraged or distracted to continue along the road, keep reminding yourself of the NEW YEAR GOALS and you want to make it happen.

Guilt or Judgment is steaming out from your negative mind, shut it off and have a Happy New Year!
