Phobias

Wordsworth said: What are fear but voice airy? Whispering harm where harm is not. And deluding the unwary. Till the fatal bolt is shot.
Our negative thoughts instill in us that something terrible is going to happen, which prevents us from achieving what we desire.
Edgar Wallace said: Fear is a tyrant and a despot, more terrible than the rack, more potent than the snake.
The thought of the snake’s bit can paralyze us, but the fear bigger than the snake is the ‘fear’ itself. This fear can hold us back from our great achievements. For example, the fear of what other’s might say or think about us will handicap us and prevent us from taking actions.
Trevor Kay said: Why are we scared to die? Do any of us remember being scared when we were born?
We are scared to die because of the belief that death is a terrible thing. What filters through our perception can alter our beliefs. If we truly understood the meaning of life and death our fear of death would be much insignificant.
Lt. John B. Putnam Jr. said Courage is not the lack of fear but the ability to face it.
When fear can no longer hold us prisoner, we can overcome any obstacles. Taking action would be the first step in the process of eradicating fear.
German Proverb: Fear makes the wolf bigger than he is.
Events, situations or outcomes may not be as bigger and challenging as the fear makes it out to be.
Franklin D. Roosevelt in his inaugural speech of March 4, 1933 said: The only thing we have to fear is fear itself – nameless, unreasoning, unjustified, terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance.
We have no reason to fear the circumstances, the outcomes, the events, the people, or any animate or inanimate objects. It is the concept, the idea of fear, the fear of what might happen, which is false can bring about fear.
What is FEAR or Phobia?
Phobia is another name for irrational fear. Fear is negative and can terrorize an individual into giving up, giving in, afraid to pursue success, afraid of being assertive and confident.
Prolong fear over a certain period can prove fatal to our physical health and mental well being.
Various ways to overcome fear:
- Change our perception of the realty.
- Analyze whatever that is causing the fear.
- Realize a lot of things in life happen no matter what.
- Do not give up and make things happen despite the fear.
- Remember, we are responsible for giving so much power to fear.
- We are responsible for giving fear life.
Personal Experience:
I had various unpleasant car incidents and I used to sweat as soon as I went on the road.
Eventually it became quite a problem. Every time I put my foot on the gas paddle, my entire right leg starts to shiver and refuses to press the gas paddle. I felt like my right leg was disobeying me. I pinched, rubbed, hit my right leg but it was useless.
FEAR was in charge of my life and could predict what my emotions were going to be. I knew somehow I had to get my life back otherwise I was going to remain a prisoner.
I was introduced to this ‘GET RID of ANY PHOBIA ….in just 10 minutes’. After I got the cd, I listened to it a couple of time; I found a difference in my driving. This gave me the power to take charge of my life; otherwise, the fear was rendering me helpless and fearful.
